Alongside the reveal of some new trailers for games like Bloodborne and Metal Gear Online, The Game Awards also a few game announcements. The Banner Saga developer Stoic, for example, took to the stage to reveal that a follow-up to their critically acclaimed RTS is in development. Moreover, the developers confirmed that the game would release in 2015.
Since this was just a brief announcement, we don’t know too much about The Banner Saga 2 outside of some general assumptions. The trademark art style - which mimics the hand drawn art style of a Viking myth - will return, as will the tactical combat. Outside of that, we know very little.
The first Banner Saga was a critical darling, earning recognition far and wide for delivering an immersive RTS experience and a moving story. However, the game also ended up in the news after Candy Crush Saga publisher King Games tried to hit The Banner Saga with a copyright claim over the term “saga.”
Thankfully, that didn’t last long and it seems King’s hubris actually helped boost The Banner Saga’s profile. It must have done something to help the folks at Stoic since The Banner Saga is now getting a sequel.
Are you happy to hear there is a second Banner Saga game in development? What do you hope to see in the second game?
